SCHOOL

Circle time will start promptly at nine. Your child will not want to miss our silliness and learning during this
time! A copy of your child’s journal went home last month; however it has come to my attention that we
will need their journals for the accreditation process. Please keep the work we sent as we are starting fresh.
Should you want to see your child(ren’s) journal, we are happy to show you where they are located. If you
have some spare time, we encourage you to grab a clip board and ask a child to tell you their story? This
entails the question, “Allie, I want to hear your story!” Write down as much as you can and then ask the
child if you can read it back? Each child at Little Feet expresses themselves differently. As you know,
children express themselves through ART, play, touch, words, emotion and stories! We hope to capture
each child’s story at least once per week, if not every day.

Thank you, Scott and DB for the beautiful planter boxes. We will be planting the ingredients for Pizza!
This includes Basil, Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, and Onions!  My kids planted strawberries and artichokes, and
they are so excited to see things grow. Each child will be planting a Sun Flower at Little Feet and will also
bring home a red cup with a planted Sun Flower. When the Sun Flowers begin to bloom, the children can
compare the one at home to their Sun Flower growth here!

Should we have any other crafty/construction oriented people willing to donate some time here at Little
Feet, please let us know if you would be available to help.  Please know that your time and efforts are
blessed, and we thank you for helping to create the BEST program for all our families.
Easter is around the corner, and we will be having an egg hunt on Friday the 10th. Please bring 1 dz. hard
boiled eggs, and 1 dz stuffed plastic eggs, by Mon 6th and Wed. the 8th.

CULTURE & DIVERSITY

We are interested in learning about each family at Little Feet, relative to culture and diversity. When we
asked the students to identify their ethnicity, it seems that most of our students think of themselves as white
colored; and when asked to draw themselves, they typically choose the black marker, although recognizing
that the majority of our students skin tone is beige, tan, or peach. I realized that we need to increase the
awareness of diversity in our program.  I would like to dig much deeper than skin tone and help our
students engage in some culture.  Parents, do you have some cultural traditions that we can find as
teachable moments?  As you are aware, our kids learn a bit of the Portuguese and sign language.  They also
engage in eating some traditional Portuguese soups, which is from my culture.  I challenge you to bring us
some ideas, so that we can implement your traditions and culture at Little Feet!

2009 CAEYC ANNUAL CONFERENCE
March 26th-28th Sacramento, California

PLAY the Optimal Way to LEARN!

WOW! Great times had by all.

Chetney is excited to implement the new circle time activities that she learned. The conference was a great
experience for her and she is looking forward to the conference next year. Thank you for supporting our
professional growth. 

How much time has your child spent in deep play today?
How much time in front of a screen, or in a car seat?

We are supporting the initiative of no TV before age 7 while in school.
We took a few workshops on brain development.  The Alliance for childhood has an incredible report on
the
Crisis in Kindergarten. We also have the 72 page version, should you wish for a  copy feel free to email
